Barry Grove pleaded guilty to the related charges which stemmed from the killing of his dog, "Anne," this past April.
District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said in a statement:
“This was a cowardly act committed with a wicked heart,”
“The defendant gunned down a loving pet, callously prolonged its suffering and blatantly thumbed his nose at a law which prohibited him from even possessing a firearm to begin with."
Anne, a husky, had been shot in Grove's yard and allowed to remain there for nearly a half hour, suffering from her grievous wounds. A neighbor, who heard the dog's cries, witnessed Grove eventually load Anne into his vehicle and dump her in a field behind his house.
The wounded dog remained there, alone, until state police arrived. Anne was so horribly injured from the gunshot that she had to be euthanized.
Grove will be sentenced for his crime on October 17.
