There have been occasional accidents that involve horses falling down, and somehow they end up on their humans. Not that long ago, a horse actually dropped dead, probably from a heart attack. That unfortunate horse ended up on her even more unfortunate human who was unable to extricate herself from under the horse.
In the case of this article, a horse fell down on his human, too. It is not entirely clear if they had a tussle or the horse spooked for whatever reason; however, the full weight of the horse squashed the man’s lower body as he came down on him.
The accident occurred at an Upper Hunter property.
As a result of this freak occurrence, the 52-year-old man was severely hurt from the horse’s weight bearing fall. The unidentified man suffered injuries to his pelvis and multiple leg fractures. Most fortunate for him, the horse did not fall on the upper portion of his body that contains his vital organs such as heart, lungs, stomach.
He was flown to the hospital from Glennies Creek by his area’s rescue helicopter. Admitted into John Hunter Hospital, he is now in stable condition.
An interesting fact about John Hunter Hospital is that, just last year, it was known as “a horse accident hot spot with as many as two incidences of horse injuries per day.”
All the writer can say to that statistic is “ouch.”
