A 25-year-old man is in serious condition after being severely cut by two men who forced their way into his home early Friday morning, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

The release said shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to a house located on the 100 block of Wilkinson Street. When they arrive, they found a 25-year-old man who was outside with severe cuts to his arm and abdomen. Officers placed a tourniquet on his arm to stop the bleeding until an ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.

Police said based on the preliminary investigation, the victim was in his house, located on the 300 block of Simms Street, when two men forced entry into his house. The victim was attacked with a knife and was able to get away and walk a short distance to the Wilkinson Street house to seek help.

The release said Eddie Pittman, 56, of Jackson, was tentatively identified as one of the attackers. Pittman is also an acquaintance of the victim and police are seeking him for questioning in this incident.

Police said Pittman also has an active arrest warrant for theft, which stems from a January shoplifting from Sears.

Pittman is described as a black male, standing at 5 feet and 11 inches and weighing 160 pounds. His last known address is on Carruthers Drive in Jackson.

The second suspect was only described as a black male, the release said.

Police said the motive for the cutting remains under investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information on this case or Pittman's whereabouts contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 731-424-8477 (TIPS). You can also submit a cyber tip at and click on “web tips.
