When a man saves kids from shark attacks, he justifiably becomes a local hero. But the man in question in this particular story has unfortunately suffered a consequence for his bravery.
In this instance, a 62-year-old British man is being referred to as a hero grandpa online for his willingness to save kids from a potential shark attack. The man did so by wrestling the shark, allowing anyone in its vicinity to swim away to safety.
But his bravery has come with a cost. Why? Because the hero grandpa in this instance has been fired from his job.
The truth is that the hero in question told his employer that he was sick (he in fact was on sick leave for work-related stress).
But what the employer didn’t plan on was the man traveling to an Australian beach for a fun vacation in the sun. While him being on the beach doesn’t necessarily negate the fact that he suffers from stress—in fact, it may only reinforce it—the fact remains that his employer was none too happy to discover that he used sick time, rather than vacation time, to go on, well, vacation.
So when his employer learned through the media that he was the man who saved children from a possible shark attack, the man was swiftly fired.
Now, the question must be asked—will this man get his job back soon? Will there be enough support online by fans of this new hero to get this 62-year-old old employed again? It’ll be an interesting story to pay attention to over the next few days and weeks, that’s for sure.
