A vehicle ran over and killed a pedestrian in a driveway and then continued through the garage door into a home in Acworth Saturday. And police said the driver and the victim had just worked on the car.
So far, no charges have been filed in the incident as investigators work to determine what exactly happened.
The investigation began shortly after officers got a call about a pedestrian fatality that happened at 1021 Pepper Circle in Acworth, according to Cobb County police. They did not say who made the 911 call.
Investigators said the driver and the victim had just completed maintenance on the white 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at the residence shortly before the collision.
Manuel Vasquez, 49, of Woodstock, was inside the vehicle when, for unknown reasons, he accelerated forward in the driveway and struck the 52-year-old victim who was standing in front of the vehicle, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said.
After striking Javier Morales, of Kennesaw, the vehicle continued through the garage door and into the residence, Bowman said. Morales was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. There was no report of injury to Vasquez.
Police have not said who lived at the home and whether anyone else witnessed the incident.
The collision remains under investigation by the department's S. T. E. P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) officers and anyone with information that can assist investigators is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
