Imagine someone pouring lye on 80 percent of your body? That is what happened to Carmen Blandin Tarleton.
Her ex-husband poured lye on her in 2007, which disfigured almost her entire body.
Tarleton has had over 50 surgeries to try to improve her physical state. Doctors even had to perform full face transplant on her.
“She's currently recovering from a transplant that applied an anonymous female donor's facial skin to the 44-year-old's nose and lips, facial muscles, neck, arteries and nerves,” according to the Huffington Post.
Doctors say that although Tarleton has suffered greatly, she is a survivor. They have quoted her as saying she is “strong” and can handle whatever comes her way.
Domestic violence is still an issue in this country and other parts of the world. This is why women should contact police if they are being abused by their partners.
Because Tarleton’s ex-husband thought she was dating someone else, he went to her house to fight the man. However, he ended up assaulting Tarleton. Herbert Rodgers broke her arm with a bat and cracked her eye socket. Then he poured lye on her, said the Huffington Post.
In 2009, Rodgers “pleaded guilty to disfiguring her, in exchange for a lighter prison sentence of at least 30 years.”
Now this mother of two has written her book “Overcome: Burned, Blinded and Blessed” to share her story with the world.
