Man pleads guilty to sexual abuse of two children

Judge Bob Brotherton, who presides over the 30th District Court, in Wichita Falls, Texas, sentenced a 33-year old man to two prison sentences after he pled guilty to charges of sexual abuse against two children Friday, according to an article in today's Wichita Falls Times Record News newspaper.

William Albert Sexton, of Iowa Park, pled guilty to the two counts of sexual abuse against children under age 14 moments before Brotherton sentenced him to 40 years in the Texas prison system on one count and 20 years in the Texas prison system on the second count.

The sad event was reported on Oct. 7, 2012 when the mother of the victims met with a police officer and told him she had questioned her two daughters about an incident about which she became aware. The mother said she became aware that the defendant had been sexually abusing her children while she was at work.

The investigation continued a day later when the victims visited with a forensic interviewer working for Patsy's House Children's Advocacy Center of Wichita Falls. The girls provided the interviewer with details of sexually explicit incidents.

One of the victims revealed the abuse was inititated several months ago and occurred on more than once occasion. The second victim also said that had been more than one incident involving her also.

When he was interviewed on Oct. 9, 2012, Sexton admitted to the offenses to law enforcement officials in Wichita County.

Because there was more than one incident of sexual abuse, the defendant pled guilty to the charge of continuing sexual abuse of a young child or children which is a relatively new law passed by the Texas Legislature.

The Iowa Park Police Department investigated the case which was resolved, according to the story in the Times Record News today. Iowa Park is within Wichita County which give 30th District Court Judge Brotherton of Wichita Falls jurisdiction over the case.
