Man pleads guilty to killing 8: Virginia man guilty in 2010 killings (Video)

Man pleads guilty to killing 8 people. According to an article posted earlier today at USA Today, a Virginia man says he is guilty of killing 8 people in 2010.

Sources say Christopher Speight, 42, pled guilty to three counts of capital murder, one count of attempted capital murder of a police officer and five firearms counts. Speight was arrested in January 2010 after he killed his sister Lauralee Sipe and her husband Dwayne Sipe, both 48, as well as their 4-year-old son Joshua.

Authorities say they believe two days, after Speight committed the above three killings, he then murdered his niece Morgan Dobyns, the 15-year-old daughter of Lauralee Sipe from a previous marriage, her friend Emily Quarles, also 15, Emily's boyfriend Ronald "Bo" Scruggs, 16, and Emily's parents Karen and Jonathan Quarles, both 43.

Kim Scruggs, Ronald Scruggs' mother wept as she spoke to Speight.

"Christopher Speight, you look at me! You were a coward up there that day when you shot my son in the back, running for his life," she said. The paused to regain her composure, then added, "May God have mercy on your soul."

The judge sentenced Speight to five life sentences, plus 18 years.

Family and friends of Speight, a former security guard, claim he had become increasingly paranoid his sister was planning to kick him off the property they shared. The land, 34 acres, was inherited from their mother who died in 2006.
