Man of Steel sequel pushed back to 2016

Warner Bros. (via Variety) just announced today that the upcoming Man of Steel sequel has been pushed back from its original 2015 release date to May 6, 2016. The film, which will feature the return of stars Henry (The Tudors, Immortals) Cavill and Amy (American Hustle, The Fighter) Adams (among others) is set to star another DC Comics icon: Batman. The Dark Knight will be played this time around by Ben (The Town, Argo) Affleck. And Gal (Fast & Furious, Fast Five) Gadot has been making headlines recently after the announcement that she will be playing Wonder Woman.

Is the delay due to script rewrites? Will there be more hints and clues leading to the inevitable Justice League film? Or are director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan simply not wanting to rush their next big project?

Either way, keep your eyes peeled for more superhero news in the immediate future. Even though the film has been delayed, this isn't necessarily the end of announcements from Warner Bros. about their soon-to-be largest financial blockbuster franchise.
