"Man of Steel" debuted at No. 1 for movie digital sales and rentals from Nov. 11 to Nov. 17, 2013, according to Rentrak. The list includes Internet Video on Demand (iVOD) and Electronic Sell-Through (EST), for both Standard-Definition and Digital HD movie purchases and rentals. (Rentrak's chart for movies on demand is a chart that ranks movies rented through traditional TV outlets.) A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind. Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue and Russell Crowe. "Man of Steel" got mixed reviews from critics, but that didn't stop the movie from being one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
"Turbo" debuted at No. 2. From the makers of "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda," "Turbo" is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500. Featuring the voices of Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Ken Jeong, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. "Turbo" got mixed reviews and did mediocre business at the box office.
"Grown Ups 2" fell from No. 1 to No. 3. The all-star comedy cast from "Grown Ups" returns (with some new additions) for more summertime laughs. Lenny (played by Adam Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises: the last day of school. The movie's cast also includes Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph and Taylor Lautner. Even though "Grown Ups 2" was disliked by most critics, the movie was a big hit at the box office.
"White House Down" dropped from No. 2 to No. 4. Capitol Policeman John Cale (played by Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (played by Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it's up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country. "White House Down" got mostly negative reviews and was considered a disappointment at the box office.
"The Heat" fell from No. 3 to No. 5. Uptight FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (played by Sandra Bullock) and foul-mouthed Boston cop Shannon Mullins (played by Melissa McCarthy) couldn’t be more incompatible. But when they join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies. "The Heat" was a big hit with critics and movie audiences.
Also worth noting: "Red 2" debuted at No. 8.
