Police say around 9:35 p.m. Sunday, officers from the 6th District were summoned to 48th Street and Minnesota Avenue NE to investigate the sounds of gunshots.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue NE, across the street from the Deanwood Metro Station.
D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel took the victim to a Maryland trauma center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The decedent was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland in Baltimore pending an autopsy.
Police later identified the victim as 22-year-old Delonta Lavale Martin, of Northeast, D.C.
Police have not speculated on a motive or suspects.
