A man lived with his dead girlfriend for over 6 months. He kept her in his bathtub. The man’s dead girlfriend with whom he had lived for more than half a year was discovered by an apartment manager according to a Jan. 2, 2013, CBS Sacramento report.
The man’s dead girlfriend would probably have stayed in the bathtub longer if the apartment manager would not have visited the man’s apartment in order to evict him.
The dead girlfriend’s body was severely decomposed but has been identified as 35-year-old Veronica Jones. The body was discovered in December of 2011.
The 37-year-old man who lived with his dead girlfriend on E. Channel Street in Stockton, Calif., was identified as Devon Omar Epps.
On Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, Devon Omar Epps was convicted of Veronica Jones’ murder. Devon Omar Epps was found guilty of premeditated murder, rape, torture, and corporal injury.
A judge has ordered a mental evaluation for Devon Omar Epps and he is scheduled to appear on Thursday for a sanity trial.
“The jury found Epps guilty of all charges: premeditated murder, use of weapon other than a firearm, rape, murder by torture and corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant … Epps will be back in the San Joaquin County courtroom Thursday for the sanity phase of his trial. A judge ordered a mental evaluation for Epps after he acted strangely in court during his arraignment.”
Within only a few days, this is the second report of an apparently mentally unstable person having killed an innocent victim. And it is only a few weeks after Adam Lanza killed 27 innocent people.
On Dec. 14, 2012, Adam Lanza killed 26 innocent children and adults during the Connecticut School shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. On Dec. 27, 2012, Erika Menendez ran away after pushing an innocent man off a subway platform in NYC.
During Erika Menendez’ court appearance, like in Devon Omar Epps’ court appearance, even the judge noticed that Erika Menendez was not mentally stable.
Adam Lanza is dead. Erika Menendez is being held without bail. Devon Omar Epps is most likely facing an insanity trial.
How many more deaths of innocent children and adults will it take before the topic of adequate and appropriate mental health care will be added to the public discussion about much needed changes in 2013?
