A man left on a plane on Friday is puzzled as to how the situation happened. A boat captain from Louisiana named Tom Wagner was flying from Lafayette to Los Angeles with a stop in Houston. En route, Wagner fell asleep and woke up in Houston under unusual circumstances.

When he woke up from his nap, he discovered that he was alone on the airplane. It was dark and quiet. There was no one else in sight. The man left on the plane called his girlfriend and asked her to contact United Airlines to get him off the airplane. She initially thought that he was joking, but when she realized that he was serious, she called the airline to rescue him.

According to a report by Today, Wagner's girlfriend told the person who answered the phone, "My boyfriend's on that airplane, you gotta get someone to get him off."

The airline representative did not believe her story, telling her, "Ma'am, we sweep those planes. There's no way he's on that plane." An aviation expert said that it is apparent the plane was not swept in this circumstance.

Wagner's unusual experience took place on a flight that was operated for United by ExpressJet. The company issued a statement to Today expressing their apologies for the situation and pledging to investigate how it happened: “ExpressJet is investigating to determine how this occurred. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused for the passenger."

For his troubles, Wagner was offered $250 and the Houston hotel room to spend the night. He said that he doesn't understand why someone did not wake him upon arrival in Houston.

Of course, the story of a man left on a plane is no laughing matter. However, there have been some funny items reportedly left on airplanes. Check out the video on the left side of this page for more details.
