A man was shot to death and a woman and child injured in a home invasion that happened early Wednesday morning in Duluth. So far, police don’t know who committed the crime but they said robbery was the motive.

The incident happened sometime before 6:20 a.m. inside a home at 2926 Summercrest Lane near Rogers Bridge Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, according to Duluth police. Investigators said two men forced their way into the home, but they have not released any details on exactly what happened inside.

Officers responded to the home after a neighbor called 911 and found a man dead inside from a gunshot wound, police spokesman Maj. Don Woodruff said. He did not say where on the body the man was shot or how many times.

Officers also found a woman and an 8-year-old girl, each suffering from at least one gunshot wound, Woodruff said. Still, their injuries were not life-threatening, he said. He did not say where in the home each victim was found.

The child was transported to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and the woman was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth, Woodruff said. A second child, a 4-year-old girl, was not injured and she has been placed into the care of a relative.
So far, police have not released the names of the victims or their relationship. It was also unclear what, if anything was taken from the home and if the family was targeted.

Police said they also have no detailed description of the two men who broke into the home. And it’s unclear if there were any witnesses who saw the men fleeing the scene.

Still, the incident has left neighbors shaken, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Nothing’s really happened like this in the past,” said James Liberatore, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 25 years.
