How many times have you seen someone with headphones on and/or texting or talking on a cell phone while in a busy traffic area?

Unfortunately for one young man, reportedly having headphones on while crossing a set of train tracks cost him his life Saturday afternoon shortly before 3:30 p.m..

According to a 10News report, the 24-year-old man was crossing tracks near the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, midway between Old Town and downtown, around mid-afternoon on Saturday after departing a trolley. While attempting to cross the tracks, the individual was struck and killed at the scene by a passing Amtrak train.

Accident temporarily cancels train operations

Due to the accident, Amtrak service in the area was temporarily halted while streets were closed to traffic. The street in the area of where the individual was struck has crossing gate arms to stop traffic when trains or trolleys pass by.

Authorities are asking anyone that witnessed the incident to contact the sheriff's department at 858-565-5200.

In light of this incident, have you come across individuals wearing headphones and/or using their cell phones and not paying attention to oncoming traffic recently?
