Man killed, his wife and 7 children injured in single-vehicle wreck

A Riverdale man was killed and his wife and seven children injured after he crashed into a tree Thursday afternoon in Meriwether County.

The Georgia State Patrol on Friday was still trying to determine what caused the deadly crash.

Investigators said Mr. Victor Allen Moorer, 30, was driving northbound on I-85 near Sewell Road when the family’s 2003 Nissan Xterra left the roadway and overturned into a wooded area, GSP’s spokesman Mr. Gordy Wright said. The driver’s side of the Xterra then struck a tree.

Mr. Moorer died at the scene, and two of his children — Shania Moorer, 11, and Chase Moorer, 3 — were airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Mr. Wright said.

Their conditions were unknown.

But the other siblings, ages 10, 9, 7, 5 and a 9-month-old baby, were treated and released, he said.

Mr. Moorer’s wife, whose name has not been released, was transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital where she was reportedly treated released.

The family was returning home from visiting relatives in Montgomery, Ala., when the wreck occurred, Mr. Wright said, according to a media report.
