A 55-year-old man was killed and his daughter and 9-month-old grandson injured after his vehicle struck a tree and overturned Sunday afternoon in north Cherokee County.
The crash happened around noon on Darby Road, according to Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers said Mr. Hector Diaz, of Waleska, was driving a Ford DRW Super Duty pickup southbound on Darby Road when he left the roadway in a curve and struck a tree.
“After impact, the vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its top,” GSP’s spokesman Mr. Gordy Wright said.
Two passengers in the truck, identified as Mr. Diaz’s daughter and grandson, were injured in the wreck.
Ms. Ashley Nicole Deegan, 28, of Waleska, was flown to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, and Adam Campbell, 9 months, also from Waleska, was transported to the same hospital by ambulance, Mr. Wright said.
Their conditions were not known Monday.
The infant was in a car seat and Ms. Deegan was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Mr. Wright said. Mr. Diaz was the only one not wearing a seatbelt, he said.
Investigators believe a medical condition may have been a contributing factor in the wreck, Mr. Wright said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The wreck remains under investigation.
