Man indicted in 2012 liquor store armed robbery

A Jackson man facing multiple charges in an armed robbery of a liquor store last year was indicted Monday, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

Tyler Hayes Mills, 21, was indicted by the Madison County grand jury on two counts of aggravated robbery and evading arrest in connection with the armed robbery of Ridgecrest Cellars, located at 2880 Ridgecrest Road. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned on March 11 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Mills also has holds that have been placed on him, the release said, as he is wanted in Chester and Henderson counties.

According to the release, police were called about the robbery at 5:11 p.m. Oct. 5. A man, dressed in camouflage, entered the business with a handgun. He took money from the store and an employee's cell phone. He was last seen running into the wooded area behind the business on the south side of Ridgecrest Road.

A responding officer saw the suspect come out of the wood line on Malone Road, then run back into the woods, the release said. Other officers quickly arrived and set up a perimeter. A police dog and helicopter were called in to help with the search.

The release said after searching for over two hours, officers arrested Mills in a wooded area off North Royal Street near Henderson Road. Officers found the stolen money, cell phone and gun.
