Pennsylvania State Police are working to determine a cause for a massive truck crash on I-95 during the early morning hours of March 22. The crash could have been much worse, officials said. The incident happened around 6:00 a.m. when a tractor trailer was broken down and fully on the shoulder of the road just before exit 40 in Bristol Twp.

Another large truck was coming south on the highway, when for an unknown reason, the driver slammed into the rear of the broken down truck. Police are working the theory that the driver fell asleep. The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries after he was freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

The driver of the broken down truck was not hurt at all and was walking around the scene. One truck was hauling recycled household appliances and the other was carrying dry goods. Police said it is too early in the investigation to determine if anyone will be charged.
