Mary Katheryn Sharpski is accused of plotting to murder her husband in order to marry her another man, Michael Shores.
Mary and Shores carried out the affair while Shores lived as a tenant in the home Mary shared with her husband, Frank Sharpski. Mary and Shores contacted Antonio Ortega in order to contract for the murder of Frank. Mary is accused of providing to Ortega information regarding Frank’s daily routine.
Ortega allegedly assaulted Frank outside his apartment on March 3, 2009. During this assault Ortega is accused of using a machete to severely injure Frank, causing a scull fracture and severing his nose and fingers. Ortega is accused of inflicting severe machete wounds. He is accused of then leaving Frank to die.
After his initial trial, Ortega was retried in 2011 because the original jury was unable to reach an unanimous verdict. Ortega was found guilty of one felony count of attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder, and one felony count of mayhem.
A jury trial for Mary is schedule for September 4, 2013. Pretrial for Shores is scheduled for October 4, 2013. If convicted, both defendants face a life sentence in California State Prison.
