A Jackson man remained held on bond Monday afternoon after being arraigned on charges that he asked a boy for sex over the internet.

Geoffrey Hale, 45, was arraigned in Jackson City Court Monday morning on charges of solicitation of aggravated statutory rape, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department. Hale’s bond was set at $20,000 and he remained in custody at the Madison County Jail in lieu of bond Monday afternoon.

His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on April 10 in city court.

The release said investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force (which is part of the JPD's Special Investigations Bureau) were notified Saturday that Hale had solicited a boy under the age of 18 years old for sex via the internet.

Hale invited the boy to come to his house, located on the 1000 block of Burkett Street, where they would have sex, the release said. Instead of the boy arriving at Hale’s house, police arrived and took Hale into custody. He was taken to the Madison County Jail, where he awaited arraignment.

Police ask that anyone with information about adults soliciting minors for sex contact JPD’s Special Investigations Bureau at 731-425-8611.
