According to the Huffington Post on Dec. 14, an Indiana man has a total of 86 decorated Christmas trees located throughout his house. It's a tight squeeze because the artificial trees are jammed into the man's 1,400-square-foot house. The trees, ornaments and lights are everywhere. They cover his floor up to his ceiling and some are even crammed into the bathroom.
Most people have just one Christmas tree in their house. Some might have more than one, but it unlikely that they have as many as Brandon Smith. He has more trees in his house than some Christmas tree sellers have on their lots.
Smith's collection in his Greenwood, Indiana house includes red trees, blue trees, green trees, themed trees with more than 52,000 lights.
Smith, 31, grew up in a house where his parents also decorated Christmas trees and decked the halls when he was a child. So, he is carrying on the tradition. What started as a hobby more than a decade ago has turned into a full-blown obsession.
He shared with "Good Morning America" how he inherited the love of Christmas trees:
“My parents always put up a pretty good display and I just have grown and expanded on it over the years. It’s not uncommon for us to come home in the middle of July and find a Christmas tree on the front porch. We’ve had a lot of donations from elderly people that don’t want to put up decorations anymore, and we’re happy to take them.”
Many trees have been donated to Smith that he has been forced to cram some in his bedroom. It takes him about a month to decorated all the trees.
Smith doesn't decorate all those trees just for himself. He opens his house every December evening so visitors can view his Christmas tree collection. Some years, he's had more than 1,000 people coming to his house to view his decorations.
Smith says, "The looks on people's faces and the reactions is the best part. We love Christmas. There’s no denying that."
While 86 trees is a large number, there is a story about a family having over 200 Christmas trees in the house.
