A man with a gun tattoo had a gun actually stuck in the waistband of his pants when he was arrested by Maine police. This is the second time the man with the gun tattoo has made national news this year. The fact that he did have a real gun this time was a surprise to the sheriff's duty that the man approached over the weekend. NBC News shared news of this incident on June 15.

Michael Smith of Norridgewock, Maine, was arrested on Thursday night. He had went to the police himself though. The man went to the home of a sheriff's deputy very distraught. The police revealed that he was crying, and he had been drinking as well when he arrived at the home. He told the deputy that he had been fighting with his ex-girlfriend. He also confessed that he stole prescription drugs from her during the conversation.

Smith was then arrested for stealing the drugs. It was revealed in a report from The Morning Sentinel that he stole Suboxone strips. This drug is used to treat drug dependency. This is when things ended up a bit interesting. The man has a very realistic looking tattoo of a gun on his waist. In the dark or at a quick glance, it might look like the man had a gun tucked into his waistband. In fact, the man has been approached before because of his realistic looking gun tattoo.

Back in March, the man approached a work crew outside his home. He told them to stop working, and he didn't bother to put on a shirt. A man on the work crew thought his gun tattoo was real, and he called in police. The man had the police arrive at the home a short time later. Scott Duff, a trooper with the Maine State Police, said the following about that incident: "Obviously it was a misunderstanding and he didn’t have a weapon, but we had to respond to the initial report as if he did."

That incident was handled, but this time around the man was carrying a real gun in the waistband of his pants when he approached the police. When he was arrested, his real gun was confiscated, and he was released on $1,000 bail. He was not charged for possession of the gun though. Maine is an open-carry state, and his gun was out in the open and visible when he was arrested on Thursday. The police also confiscated a knife during the arrest.

Why did the man go to the home to the deputy to confess his actions? He thought he might hurt himself. After his arrest, he was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. The ex-girlfriend confirmed to police that the man stole her drugs after his arrest. Smith will have to appear in court on Aug. 6 because of these charges.

This man's tattoo seems to cause him a lot of trouble. It is an interesting tattoo, but one does have to wonder if the trouble the tattoo causes is worth it. What do you think? Would you mistake this man's tattoo for the real thing? Share your thoughts below.
