Man goes on hunger strike in protest of homelessness

A resident in Eugene has taken the homeless situation to heart. Conrad Barney has been on a hunger strike for 31 days to protest homelessness in the area.

Barney has not eaten solid foods for the duration of the strike. He states he won’t eat until all homeless people have a place to sleep at night. Barney feels the strike is worth it, especially if change comes from the process.

Barney states that his message isn’t really his message but that it’s everyone’s message.

Without solid foods, there is a possibility of organs shutting down in the body. Barney claims he is paying close attention to his body and is well aware of the heart and kidney issues as the strike progresses.

Conrad says he has lost about 40 pounds while being on a juice and supplement diet. The protestor says he is in it for the long haul. He tells KVAL:

There’s tons of solutions. We just have to get together and make it happen.
