A man was killed and another man wounded in a double shooting and police on Sunday said they are trying to determine who shot the men and why.
The deceased victim has been identified as 30-year-old Armando Lopez Perez, of Guatemala, according to Chamblee police. They did not say how long the man has been in Georgia pr what he was doing in Chamblee.
The shooting happened shortly before midnight Friday at 40 Clairview Drive, Investigative Commander Capt. Ernesto Ford said in a news release.
Just minutes before midnight, officers responded to the location at Clairview Drive where they found a man with two gunshot wounds lying in the roadway, Ford said. Perez was later pronounced dead at the scene, the captain said.
A second victim was discovered nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg and he was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, police said. Both victims are related and the motive for their shooting is unknown, Ford said. He has not released the identity of the surviving victim or how he is related to the deceased.
The victim told investigators that he and Perez had left a nearby restaurant and bar when a vehicle pulled up, Ford said. The passenger approached and began firing at the men, he said. The surviving victim said he ran home where he discovered he had been shot and a relative called 911, the captain said.
No detailed description of the suspect or his vehicle has been released and police have not said how many shots were fired or what type of weapon was used to commit the crime. It’s also unclear if both victims were targeted or if there were any other witness to the shooting.
