A man was found shot to death on a landing outside the second-floor room of an extended stay motel near Stone Mountain early Monday morning.
And police hours later were still trying to determine who killed him and why.
Also, the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office said they were still trying to locate his next of kin and could not release his name.
The shooting happened around 5 a.m. at the Savannah Suites on Memorial Drive, according to DeKalb County police.
Officers responding to a call about unknown trouble found the victim, a black man believed to be in his mid-30s to early 40s, dead on a landing outside a second-floor room, police said. He had been shot at least once, spokeswoman Ms. Mekka Parish said.
It’s unclear if the man was staying at the hotel, police said. They are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
“Some people that we’ve spoken with have described hearing a scuffle, and some people described hearing some thuds, but nothing as to gunshots,” DeKalb police Lt. Mark Lavigne told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Police have not released a description of a suspect.
