The discovery of a man’s body inside a vacant Jackson home Friday night led to the start of a homicide investigation, according to a late Friday night news release from the Jackson Police Department.

Police said they are now investigating the murder of 53-year-old John Wesley Williams, who was found inside the home. Investigators were questioning a person of interest late Friday night.

Police were called shortly before 7 p.m. Friday about a homicide on Second Street. Williams' body was found inside a vacant house at 104 Second Street, where officers learned Williams had been living.

Investigators and an assistant medical examiner were summoned to the scene. The preliminary cause of Williams’ death was determined to be injuries from blunt force.

Williams' body was sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville for an autopsy.
