Homicide detectives in Suffolk County are investigating after a man’s lifeless body was found Sunday afternoon behind a dumpster in a Copiague parking lot, according to a Jan. 13 police news release.

Officers made the grisly discovery around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday after being dispatched to 7 Ralph Ave.

A 911 caller reported finding a man’s body in the parking lot of the commercial property. When officers arrived, they found the body lying behind a dumpster in the lot.

The man, who police have not yet identified, “appears to be the victim of violence,” authorities said Monday. Police did not say how the man died or if he was killed at the scene.

The Suffolk County medical examiner’s office is expected to perform an autopsy in the coming days.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392 or anonymously call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
