According to Sunday's WTSP News, a man in Pinellas County, Fla., died after saving his small dog who jumped into the water from a pontoon boat.

Rascal, a three-year-old Yorkshire terrier, jumped overboard on Saturday, and his devoted guardian, John Patti, went into the murky water to save him. Patti's efforts to save his dog were successful, but in the process, he lost his own life.

Cristen Rensel with the Pinellas Sheriff's Office stated:

Mr. Patti jumped in the water after the dog. He saved the dog. He went underwater. The people on the boat couldn't find him. He disappeared,"

Patti's friends are mourning the tragic loss.
