Man faces animal cruelty charges

As reported on WCNC.com today, a Lincoln County man, Gary Wayne Ericcson, faces felony animal cruelty charges after he shot his pet snake.

Deputies were called to a shooting at a home around 9:30 p.m. Sunday and when they arrived, they found Mr. Ericcson sitting on his front porch.

A 20-gauge shotgun was found in a bedroom and a pistol on a nightstand. There were a number a holes in the walls from gun blasts and deputies found a dead snake behind the home.

Mr. Ericcson confessed to the shooting of his pet snake. He was jailed on a $20k bond and it is not known if he has retained an attorney.

The type of snake was not reported.
