A DeKalb County pimp is facing more than 200 years behind bars for trafficking and pimping children and teaching others to do the same.
“[Curry] is a monster who preyed upon young and impressionable girls for his own personal and financial gain,” the District Attorney Mr. Robert James said.
Mr. Darryl Curry, 48, was convicted Monday of 13 felony counts including: trafficking of persons for sexual servitude; pimping for person under 18; sexual exploitation of children; false imprisonment; cruelty to children in the first degree, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the county’s district attorney’s office.
He is expected to be sentenced next Tuesday, prosecutors said. Originally, prosecutors said he faced 600 years in prison, but changed it to 200 years the next day.
The investigation into Mr. Curry’s activities began on Oct. 8, 2011 when of two young girls alerted police about his crimes, the district attorney’s spokesman Mr. Erik Burton said.
After obtaining a search warrant, police identified another victim and various pimping and human trafficking paraphernalia, which included videos of Mr. Curry instructing others on how to become a pimp and obtain wealth from exploiting women, prosecutors said.
“Curry described himself as a ‘finesse pimp,’ one who cares for the women who work for him,” said Assistant District Attorney Ms. Dalia Racine, who served as lead prosecutor for the case.
“But in actuality, he was extremely violent and physically abusive to our two victims. He mentally manipulated his victims and forced them to recruit other young women into the ‘life.’”
Mr. Curry was convicted of 13 felony counts including trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, pimping for person under 18, sexual exploitation of children, false imprisonment, cruelty to children in the first degree, simple battery, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstruction of an officer.
A co-defendant in the case, Mr. John William Anderson, pled guilty at an earlier hearing.
