Wiz Khalifa’s concert in Mountain View, California on Friday ended with the fatal shooting of a 38 year man. The rapper, along with Live Nation, had to cancel the show scheduled for Saturday night in Chula Vista.
The shooting incident is rumored to have occurred backstage of the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Police, who rushed to the scene shortly after 11pm, initially would not release the name of the victim but reports from ABC7 reports that family and friends identified him as Eric Johnson of Oakland, California.
The true identity of the suspect has not been revealed, however; the police describes the shooter as a 20 year old African-American male with short hair and between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 inches tall. The description of the clothing is a black shirt, red baseball cap and white jeans.
Fortunately, no one else was injured at the venue which had approximately 22,000 attendees. It’s not clear how the gun got through security but the investigation is still active.
The concert will not be rescheduled, however; ticket holders are able to receive a refund.
Khalifa expressed his feelings about the tragedy and went to Twitter to post, “This was a senseless tragedy. Violence is never the answer. My prayers go out to the victim’s family.”
Police are currently unable to determine a motive behind the shooting and are asking for any kind of help they can get from the concert goers.
