Man Destroys Hotel room After Running Out of Toilet Paper

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-“No Square to Spare”– A man in N.C. caused more than $2,000 in damages to a Charlotte, N.C. hotel after discovering he had run out of toilet paper in his room, police say.

43-year-old, Dereck MacDonald, became enraged late Sunday night, early Monday morning after discovering his room at the Charlottetown Manor was out of toilet paper.

Police say MacDonald allegedly walked into a vacant room that was being renovated and clogged the toilet, causing water damage to the room, then went back into his room and damaged additional property by “Physical force,” the report said.

In all, MacDonald caused $1,000 in damage to a ceiling, $1,000 in damage to carpet in both rooms, $70 in damage to a blow dryer and $20 in damage to fluorescent lights in a bathroom, and graffiti according to the report.

Police arrested MacDonald and charged him with injury to personal property.

The Charlottetown Manor is a low-cost motel that provides temporary housing for thousands of people with mental illness, physical disabilities and drug addiction.

At the time of this report is remained unclear if MacDonald is still in custody pending a bond hearing, or if he has hired a lawyer.

So destroying a hotel room because you’re out of toilet paper may sound absurd to any rational person with average intelligence; however, this is not the most bizarre story of hotel trashing to occur in recent years.

Last year, 73-year-old, Joseph Jones smashed all the mirrors in his motel room and threw his television set outside his room, after receiving a prank call from a person pretending to be the motel manager warning him that his room was full of hidden cameras and that there was a little person trapped next door.

Jones, believing the caller, tried to punch his way through the wall to the next room. Jones was not arrested or cited for the damages, but he was asked to leave the motel.
