A nearly 30-year-old man from Tennessee is one of the latest who have complained to doctors that he cries bloody tears. According to a report made by The New York Daily News which was published on October 18, a young man from Tennessee cries tears of blood as well as has blood coming out of his nose and mouth and doctors can't explain the cause of it.
The rare condition is known as Haemolacria and it seems that the nearly 30-year-old started crying these tears of blood as well as bleeding from his nose and mouth when he was just 22-years-old. Although he has been having this problem for the past 7 years, he says the bleeding has subsided to only once or twice per week. However, he cannot hold down a public job or attend school because of it. Doctors are having trouble explaining the cause.
Michael Spann, the near 30-year-old man who has had this condition since he was 22, stated that he gets really bad headaches and then starts bleeding from his eyes, nose, and mouth. However, he is not the only one who has this rare condition. As a matter of fact, a young boy pleaded for doctors in 2009, when he was only 15 years old, to help him with his problem of crying bloody tears. Spann has tried to speak to the boy but he has not responded to him yet.
Also, yet another case in Chile, a 20-year-old young woman asked for help publicly for this rare condition. She stated to her local news media that the bloody tears happen for no reason and when they do, she has indescribable pain.
A doctor from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Dr. James "Chris" Fleming has stated that being diagnosed with this rare condition is very difficult. This is because doing procedures near the tear duct is very risky and anyone who has this done can lose some of their tear duct which could make them totally disabled.
Also, the patients Dr. Fleming has seen with this condition have always been very young and he says that the condition does subside with age.
