Jeffrey Garcia; former campaign manager, for Rep Joe Garcia (No relation) has admitted to voter fraud in Florida. Garcia illegally requested hundreds of absentee ballots in order to improve his candidate's chances in the competitive democratic primary. He will have to serve 90 days after he pled out.
Garcia's lawyer said it was never his client's intention to steal anyone's vote.
“I think the facts show he actually didn't manipulate anybody's vote, interfere with anybody's ballot. All they did was request the ballots. The way they did it was in violation of the applicable statutes, and that's it."
In the scheme, Garcia tried to fix the vote by submitting hundreds of manufactured votes to Joe Garcia. Jeffrey Garcia resigned after he was accused of voter fraud and Rep Joe Garcia requested it. Garcia expressed regrets, saying , “It is painful to watch a friend go through this very difficult ordeal. As we all move past this investigation, it must be noted that while these actions were wrong. No ballots were touched or manipulated in anyway, and no voter had their votes interfered with or impeded in any way."
Once Garcia has served his 90 days, he will be on probation for 1 1/2 years including 90 days of house arrest. After he completes his sentence, he will be allowed to return to politics, at which time he will be in great demand.
Joe Garcia did win the primary and went on to defeat republican incumbent, David Rivera in the general election.
