A Greenville, S.C., man is in hot water following the posting of a disturbing photo to Facebook which shows a dog hanging over the balcony of a condo, reported Monday's WBTW News.
The uproar started when the photo was uploaded to several Facebook pages on Sunday.
The caption which accompanied the photo stated:
This picture was taken and posted on Facebook today when the photographer caught someone hanging their dog over the balcony of their condo at McBee Station in Greenville, to let the dog use the bathroom on the ground.
The photo is making it's rounds and has been forwarded to authorities, but we're not sure anything is being done. Is this legal?
The photo and the number of people who were commenting and sharing the image, prompted the local authorities to investigate, and issue a citation.
The individual believed to be responsible, Tyler Smith, 23, is facing a citation for violation of the city's animal care law; Smith could be facing over $1,000 in fines and a maximum 30-day jail sentence as a result.
According to Greenville Online, the dog in the photo belongs to Smith's father.
Greenville Police spokesman Johnathan Bragg described the contraption on the dog who was in the photo:
He was hanging by some type of cord,
It was a harness around its body and around its neck.”
