A 25-year-old man who allegedly raped a woman during a home invasion in Clayton County was arrested Tuesday — and police said the suspect wrote a letter of apology to the victim.

Mr. James Arthur Ramsey III, of Jonesboro, was charged with rape, burglary, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and robbery for the incident, which happened Sunday morning, according to Clayton County police.

U.S. Marshals arrested Mr. Ramsey in southwest Atlanta and transported to Clayton County police headquarters.

Investigators said a man broke into a home on Sycamore Drive around 2:40 a.m. and sexually assaulted the woman.

He was inside the home for about five to 10 minutes and spoke at length with the victim, according to a news release from Sheriff Victor Hill.

The suspect then left, taking with him a 42-inch television and a cell phone, police said.

Through the release of a sketch, investigators were able to identify Mr. Ramsey as a suspect and asked for the public’s help in locating him.

“After being questioned by Clayton County Police Detectives, Ramsey did admit to the crimes committed and wrote an apology letter to the victim,” police spokesman Officer Eddie Soto said.

It’s unclear of Mr. Ramsey knew the alleged victim. He was later transported to the Clayton County jail where he remained Tuesday night.
