A Jackson man was arraigned Monday morning after being charged with raping a young girl in August, according to a Monday evening news release from the Jackson Police Department.
The bond for Bruce Marvin Vann, 45, was set at $50,000 during his arraignment in Jackson City Court Monday morning. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m.
Vann is charged with rape of a child, which is a Class A felony. According to Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-522, rape of a child is “the unlawful sexual penetration of a victim by the defendant or the defendant by a victim, if the victim is more than three years of age but less than thirteen years of age.”
Police said they were told about the allegation of rape on Sept. 5. Investigators determined that the 11-year-old girl had been raped on Aug. 31 by Vann.
After Vann's arrest on Sept. 6, he was booked in at the Madison County Jail.
Police said they are receiving assistance in their investigation from the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.
