A 32-year-old man was arrested Monday for murder in the death of a man who was shot in the back of the head at an apartment complex last month in southwest Atlanta. Police said the suspect robbed the victim and another man at the complex.

Terry Denham, 32, was charged with felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting that happened on July 26, according to Atlanta police.

Shortly before 2:50 p.m. that Saturday officers responded to the complex at 691 University Ave. after getting a report of a person shot, according to the police report. Once on the scene officers found a man lying on the ground outside of an apartment building with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, police said.

The victim, who was later identified as 29-year-old Claude Dickerson, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died shortly after his arrival, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. Investigators said Dickerson and another man were robbed, but they did not provide any details on the items that were taken.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said Dickerson was from Montgomery, Ala., according to Channel 2 Action News. It's unclear what he was doing at the apartment complex.

One resident told the news station she moved away from that part of the complex because it is mostly abandoned.

“It was too much going on out here. It was so isolated,” Stephanie Kennymore said.

It’s unclear if Denham was the only suspect wanted in the shooting. He was transported to the Fulton County jail where he remained Monday without bond, according to booking records.
