An Ellenwood teenager was found shot to death on the ground near a northwest Atlanta residence and police said on Sunday that they have arrested the man they believe killed him.
Still, investigators did not provide a motive for 17-year-old’s murder on Feb. 4. They also did not provide any details on the circumstance of the shooting.
Their suspect, Mr. Darnell Hudson, 24, remained in the Fulton County jail Monday on charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to booking records.
The investigation into the shooting of Mr. Wilton Smith-Muirhead began shortly after 3:30 p.m. when officers responded to 505 James. P. Brawley Drive after getting a call about a shooting, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.
“Upon officer’s arrival, an unresponsive male was found lying on the ground with a large amount of blood coming from his upper body Grady EMT transported the victim to Grady Hospital with a gunshot wound to his head,” Officer Jones said.
A short time later the teen died from his injuries.
It’s unclear how investigators linked Mr. Hudson to the crime. He surrendered to police after learning of a warrant for his arrest, Officer Jones said.
