Actress Sarah Hyland, who plays the older of two daughters in the mockumentary style TV hit show “Modern Family,” was attending a cast party sponsored by Qantas in Sydney, Australia on the evening of Feb. 20 when a male fan, “who had asked her to pose for a photograph,” allegedly grabbed her breast.
MSN reported that the 23-year-old Hyland immediately got upset and screamed out "Don't touch me there!"
The distraught actress alerted private security guards who in turn contacted the police.
Police from New South Wales said that the 29-year-old alleged groper was arrested and charged with assault with an act of indecency. The man has since been released on bail, but will be in court to face his charge on March 14, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Following the incident, Hyland immediately left the party, but later tweeted an apology to her fans for leaving the gathering early.
"Sorry to all the fans outside the #qantas event that I didn't get to say hi to but I had to leave due to an inappropriate touch of a fan."
Hyland’s boyfriend, actor Matt Prokop, also took to Twitter with a choice tweet of his own.
"To the [expletive] who assaulted Sarah tonight I hope to God you don't see next week," he tweeted. "All Sarah wanted to do tonight was say hi to the girls who were waiting outside one douche can ruin it for everyone. Goodnight."
Prokop is currently embroiled in a minor flame war over the incident on Twitter.
Hyland, who portrays the character of Haley Dunphy on “Modern Family,” arrived in Sydney on Tuesday along with the rest of her TV family and crew to shoot a special holiday episode for the critically acclaimed TV show. The cast should be in Australia for the next two weeks.
