Shayne Carpenter, 27, was arrested in Grass Valley, Calif. by Nevada County Sheriff's Office deputies and charged with poisoning and domestic violence in connection with putting Visine eye drops in his girlfriend’s drink, Good Morning America reported on March 9.
Carpenter, employed as a mechanic, was arrested and booked on Thursday.
According to the police, Carpenter put the Visine drops in his girlfriend’s drink following an argument between the couple. Carpenter didn't think the drops would make the girl sick; but that’s exactly what happened.
Lt. Steve Tripp of the Nevada County Sheriff Department said that the girlfriend became suspicious after seeing texts on Carpenter’s cell phone. Carpenter was texting some friends describing the incident, and how his alleged prank had gone bad.
"He was making texts to his buddies that if 'She's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping,'" Tripp said.
After seeing those texts, and already falling ill, the girlfriend contacted police who managed to get an admission of guilt from Carpenter over the telephone.
After being treated and released at a local hospital, the girlfriend whose name is not being released, is on the road to recovery after drinking those Visine eye drops.
Shayne Carpenter was released from jail on Friday on a $25,000 bond.
