On Tuesday, Wesley Reid, 22, was charged with one count of animal abuse. It was reported that police used cellphone records to determine that Reid had been in the vicinity where Zeus was found. Reid had also sent text messages to Zeus' owner saying he had intended to burn the dog.
After Zeus had gone missing in August, his owner called the Humane Society to report that Zeus had been stolen out of the yard. He was later found in a neighbor’s yard, injured and with burns over his entire body.
The dog had third-degree burns over his head, the left side of his body, his left hip, leg and paw, and his scrotum. His eyes were also severely injured.
The Humane Society of Missouri had offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for injuring Zeus.
