A Branch, La. man was arrested and booked with vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular negligent injuring, driving left of center, reckless operation and fourth offense DWI, according to WWL News on Dec. 27, 2013.

Louisiana State Police say 48-year-old Jody Bourque was driving south on LA Highway 35, crossed over the center-line and crashed into another vehicle head-on. Germaine Garrick of Church Point was the driver of the vehicle Bourque struck and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 35-years-old. There were two passengers in the vehicle with Garrick who sustained minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

Bourque was treated at the scene for minor injures and taken to the Acadia Parish Jail. An ignition interlock device had previously been installed in Bourque's vehicle, but he disabled it.

Louisiana State Police spokesperson Stephen Hammons says, "Impairment and lack of seat belt use continues to be factors in Acadiana."

Louisiana State Law requires all vehicle occupants to wear a seat belt at all times. Police say Bourque was wearing his seat belt, but Garrick was not.

According to Acadia Parish Clerk of Court's Office, Bourque was charged with his first DWI in March 1995, and in April 2002 was charged again for suspected driving while intoxicated. In 2009, Bourque was charged with a second offense DWI, careless operation of a vehicle and two counts of negligent vehicular injury. The DWI was amended from second offense to first offense and received a suspended six month sentence. He has numerous other arrest for possession/distribution of drugs, assault, battery and other crimes.
