Moments after a driver struck three teens, he stopped, watched two of them collapsed on the side of the road and then drove away.

On Monday, police said they have captured the hit-and-run driver.

Mr. Michael Turner, 31, was charged Saturday with hit and run, failure to exercise due care with pedestrians and driving without a valid license, according to Atlanta police.

The incident happened on Jan. 31 at 500 Emerald Avenue in southwest Atlanta, police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon has said.

When officers arrived they found two teens lying on the ground. They were breathing, but unresponsive. A third teen was standing next to them.

She told police that other two girls, 15 and 14, had been walking from her house on Westwood Avenue when the incident happened.

She was in front of the other two girls and they were on Westmeath Drive between Stokes Avenue and Emerald Avenue when she heard a vehicle behind them.

“Before she could turn around the three girls were all struck by the vehicle,” Sgt. Lyon said. The teen said she was able to stand up as well as the other two girls who got out of the street.

But then both girls collapsed on the side of the road.

The teen said she looked down the road and saw a silver four-door vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, stop just before Emerald Avenue.

“She saw a tall, black male, wearing a red shirt, exit the driver side of the vehicle, look at the girls, then get back into his vehicle and flee up Emerald Avenue,” Sgt. Lyon said.

By the time paramedics arrived to work on the two girls on the ground, a large crowd had gathered.

The teens were transported to Children's Hospital of Atlanta at Egleston.

Mr. Turner, who was has been previously charged with battery, terroristic threats and public drunkeness, remained in the Fulton County jail Monday night, according to booking records.
