Brian A. Jackson was charged in the Sedgwick County, Kan., District Court on Thursday and Judge Warren Wilbert set his bond at $25,000.
Jackson, a tenant at a duplex in the 2600 block of East Elm, was arrested Monday night after a neighbor called 911 to report a possible burglary and case of animal cruelty.
Responding deputies from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office discovered a baseball bat and a deceased pit bull puppy.
Jackson must appear in court for his preliminary hearing in early September.
It is unclear of the deceased puppy had belonged to Jackson, or to someone else.
