Man charged in fatal North Valley Stream shooting

A Queens man – on the run from his parole officer – was charged and arraigned Tuesday after he allegedly committed a double shooting in North Valley Stream that killed one victim and seriously injured the other, Nassau County police said.

Joshua Geddes, 23, of Queens Village, was arraigned Dec. 10 on charges of second-degree murder and violation of parole. Nassau County District Court Judge David Goodsell ordered him held without bail during the appearance at the Hempstead courthouse.

Court documents obtained by Examiner.com allege Geddes was “acting in consort with another,” when he alleged committed the crime. Police have not said if they are searching for another suspect in connection with the incident.

Geddes has been charged for the double shooting that occurred in the vicinity of 18 Charles Street in North Valley Stream on Monday. When police arrived, they found 21-year-old Benjamin Palemon had been shot and was lying on the sidewalk in front of a home on the block. He was taken to an area hospital, but was pronounced dead about 40 minutes after the shooting, police said.

Officers located an unidentified 22-year-old man a short distance away. He too was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was listed Tuesday in guarded condition, according to a police news release.

State corrections records show Geddes listed as a parole absconder after he was released last June from a state prison for a felony robbery conviction in upstate Oneida County.

A spokeswoman for the state’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, which oversees parolees, did not immediately provide information about Geddes’ time under parole supervision.
