A Jackson man is out on bond after being arraigned Monday on battery and assault charges in connection with choking and inappropriately touching a woman at his job.

Nathan Carlton, 20, was arraigned in Jackson City Court Monday morning on charges of aggravated assault and sexual battery by an authority figure, a Class C felony, of a former employee, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

Police said Carlton posted a $7,5000 bond following the arraignment and was released from the Madison County Jail at 10:30 a.m. Monday. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on June 12 in city court.

According to police, a 26-year-old woman told police on May 2 that she had recently started working as a receptionist for Vector Marketing, located at 364 North Parkway, in Jackson. She said Carlton, who was her supervisor, displayed inappropriate behavior toward her soon after she started the job.

Jackson police investigators learned that on April 29, Carlton placed his hands around her neck and choked her. A second incident occurred on May 1, when Carlton inappropriately touched the woman in a sexual manner, the release said.

The woman resigned and reported the incidents to police.

Investigators signed a warrant for Carlton's arrest on May 6 and police had been searching for him when Carlton surrendered to Jackson police at 4 a.m. Monday morning, the release said.
