A man attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old Cherokee County boy by telling him his dad was in the hospital and offered to give him a ride.

Now deputies are searching for the man for attempted abduction, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.

On Friday, they released the image of the Dodge pickup that the suspect was driving at the time of the incident.

On Wednesday deputies were dispatched to a home on Flint Drive in Woodstock after getting the call about a suspicious person, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.

The 12 year old boy told deputies that when he got off his school bus, a white middle-aged male with “scruffy” facial hair and approached him.

“(He) told the child that his father was in the hospital and instructed the child to get in the vehicle so he could take him to his father,” Lt. Baker said. “The child told the man he was going to talk to his mother first and then ran to his residence. The suspect then reportedly drove out of the subdivision.”

The suspect was driving a black Dodge pickup that reportedly had damage to the rear driver side door, the spokesman said.

Investigators have been canvassing the area and interviewing residents, but none remembered seeing the truck that day, Lt. Baker said.

However, on Friday, investigators were able to obtain images from the bus’s interior camera, he said. On camera, a Dodge pickup can be seen parked near the bus stop that day, Lt. Baker said.

Anyone with any information about the suspect, suspect vehicle or this incident is asked to call 911.
