Man assaulted, shot outside Detroit gas station

The Detroit police are searching for two men who assaulted and shot a 69-year-old man outside a northwest side service station Monday morning. The motive for the shooting is not yet known.

The criminal episode occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. at a Citgo service station in the 15900 block of Livernois near Puritan.

The victim was either leaving the gas station or walking near it when two young men, also on foot, approached him. The suspects attacked the victim and then shot him.

A store clerk heard a gunshot coming from behind the station but did not know that anyone had been hit.

The police have so far not released the victim’s condition.

Police are puzzled by the suspects’ motive, since it does not appear that the victim is missing any property.

Both suspects are described the same way. They are black, 5’8” to 5’9” tall, weighing between 170-180 lbs.

Anyone with knowledge of the shooting is urged to call the Detroit police homicide unit at (313)596-2260.
